What Session Quality Actually Means

Length and bounce rate are easy. Quality is whether the visit did the job without unnecessary struggle.

A long session can mean deep engagement—or a user stuck looking for a button. A short session can mean efficient success—or an immediate abandon. Session quality asks a different question: did the visit accomplish a meaningful job with acceptable friction?

Start by naming the jobs that matter in your product. Then decide which signals show struggle (errors, dead ends, backtracks) and which show completion (confirmations, exports, successful saves). Combine both into a small scorecard instead of chasing a single vanity number.

Share the definition with support and product. When everyone uses the same language for a “rough session,” monitoring stops being a private analytics hobby.
